4 indicted in scrap metal thefts

By Messenger Staff | Published Saturday, July 7, 2012

Four people have been indicted in connection with repeated thefts of scrap metal at Elite Metal Fabricators in Newark.

Paul Timothy Frank, 50, of Azle; Phillip Kyle Simmons, 27, of Haltom City; Stephenie Ann Frank, 21, of Haltom City; and Jesse Clyde Jones Jr., 23, of Haltom City were all indicted for theft of property worth $1,500 to $20,000, a state jail felony, by a Wise County grand jury June 21.

The business had been hit in February and then twice in April. After the second theft, business owners Robert and Jay Darter hired a security guard, and he alerted police when Jones was seen loading metal into the bed of a pickup in the early morning hours of April 25. Jones was arrested at the scene.

Security tapes had recorded four suspects – three men and one woman – stealing from the location on the afternoon of April 22. The same four apparently had hit the location on a Sunday afternoon in February, according to the security tape.

Jones was caught three days after the April 22 theft.

Open since 1999, Elite Metal employs approximately 30 people and is the biggest private employer in Newark.
