Students awarded UIL scholarships

Caira Heinze and Daniel McCasland, both graduates of Slidell High School, were awarded scholarships by the Texas Interscholastic League Foundation. Heinze received the $1,000 Nike Scholarship, and McCasland was awarded the $1,000 Frances F. Holloway Memorail Scholarship, both payable the first year of higher education. These scholarships are awarded to students who have participated in the UIL academic state meet and who have compiled an outstanding record of academic and extracurricular achievement. Heinze competed in persuasive speaking and poetry interpretation at the 2012 UIL academic state meet. She placed first in poetry interpretation. She also participated in UIL One-Act Play. McCasland competed in computer science at the 2011 and 2012 UIL academic meets where he placed second in 2011.
