NORTHWEST ISD LAUNCHES BOND REFERENDUM WEBSITE – Following the recommendation of the long-range planning committee, the Northwest ISD board of trustees called for a $255 million capital bond referendum. As the second-fastest growing school district in the state, the bond was called to address the district’s continuing student population growth, which is expected to increase by 35 percent in the next five years. For a look at what the bond referendum would provide and additional information about tax rates and voter registration, go to www.nisdtx.org/bond2012. Northwest ISD currently operates 27 campuses, spanning three counties (Denton, Tarrant and Wise) and 14 municipalities across 234 square miles. Election day for the Northwest ISD bond election is Nov/ 6, with early voting Oct. 22 to Nov. 2. NISD ISSUES NETBOOKS TO SECONDARY STUDENTS – During student registration, NISD issued approximately 8,700 Dell Latitude 21X0 series netbook computers to students in grades 6 through 12. The mini laptops are equipped with wireless networking and software, including the district’s filtering system, which restricts questionable websites regardless of the student’s location. The student netbook initiative is a key ingredient in the district’s vision where every student will graduate future-ready: ready for college, ready for the global workplace and ready for personal success. This is the fourth consecutive year netbooks have been distributed in Northwest ISD.
