Graveside service for Orel Norwood Griffith, 101, of Boyd was July 26 at Pleasant Grove Cemetery No. 1 with the Rev. Mark Autry officiating.

Griffith died Monday, July 23, 2012, in Bridgeport.

Born July 13, 1911, near Cottondale to Josiah Silas and Nancy Ellen (Martin) Norwood, she attended school at New Salem near Decatur. She married Jordan Griffith May 21, 1955, and was a lifelong resident of Wise County, except for several years following her marriage to Jordan.

She worked at Swift & Co. and Armour Laboratories in Fort Worth. After she returned to Wise County in 1972, she worked at Monnig’s Department Store in the alterations department until her mother required additional care.

Griffith cooked and was a seamstress, sewing everything from coats to wedding gowns. She attended Diamond Hill Baptist Church in Fort Worth and First Baptist Church in Boyd until her health deteriorated. She had been living in care facilities since December 2004.

She was preceded in death by her husband on April 1, 1969; brother Bill Norwood; sister-in-law Della Norwood; and grandson Jon Wolfe in 2005.

Griffith is survived by daughters Henry Jeanne Wolfe and husband, Charles, of Boyd and Jo Ellen Martin of Cheyenne, Wyo.; grandchildren Steve Wolfe and wife, Sarah, and Noelle Holmes and husband, Rodney, all of Boyd, Cori Hastings and husband, Larry, of Cheyenne, and Glenna Smith of Gordon, Neb.; great-grandchildren Chris Wolfe of Boyd and Jessica Osterloo, Eli Smith and Aevyn Smith of Gordon; great-great-grandchildren Lane Wolfe and Dakota Wolfe of Boyd; nieces, nephews and extended family.
