A graveside service was Sept. 7 at Oaklawn Cemetery with the Rev. Johnny Irish officiating.
Pallbearers were David Boyd, Johnny Schumacher, Michael Schumacher, C.J. Schumacher, Johnathan Schumacher and Dr. Kelley Tibbels. Honorary pallbearers were members of the adult men’s class at the First United Methodist Church in Decatur.
Boyd was born Sept. 29, 1929, to Odie and Edith (Myers) Boyd in Decatur. He married Mary Helen Duncan Jan. 6, 1950, in Fort Worth. Bobby served his country in the U.S. Army. He was a member of the Decatur Golf Club, Runaway Bay Country Club, Masonic Lodge, JSR Alcohol & Drug Abuse and the First United Methodist Church.
Boyd worked in the aerospace industry for 40 years, including 38 years for Convair/General Dynamics in Fort Worth on the B-36, B-58, F-111, F-16 and other miscellaneous development programs. He worked for two years on the Atlas Missile Program in Abilene, and for two years he worked for Hyler Aerospace Division with NASA in New Orleans on the Saturn Apollo first mission to the moon. He retired as a manager of manufacturing engineering.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Mary Ann Vanderventer; his sister, JoAnne Grissom; and his brother, Bill Boyd.
Bobby is survived by his wife of 62 years, Mary Helen Boyd of Decatur; son David Boyd of Crowley; three grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; brother Jack W. Boyd of Plano; sister Helen Ruth Paschall of Denton; numerous nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
