The Wise County Health Fair is just days away, and this year promises to be the best yet! The Health Fair is 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, April 21, at the Decatur Civic Center. Sponsored by United Way, the Health Fair promotes a healthier Wise County through community awareness and education.

Make plans for the Family Fun Run which will begin with registration at 9:45 a.m. followed by the approximate one mile run/walk at 10:30 a.m. around the perimeter of the Civic Center and adjacent properties. Upon the completion of the course, participants will enter their name in a drawing for outstanding prizes such as a youth bicycle, sports equipment, gym memberships, camping supplies and outdoor games. Sponsors of this event are Texas AgriLife Extension Service, Care Improvement Plus, Cook Children’s Health Care System, Dena Silvers and Mike Bowers of Fit-N-Wise.

Following are free health screenings that are confirmed to date: Beltone – hearing; Decatur Eye Center and Wal-Mart Vision Center – vision screenings; Sam’s Club – eye/hearing; North Star Chiropractic – spinal screenings; Wise Regional Radiology – carotid artery scans; Wise Regional Emergency Room – blood pressure checks; North Texas Community Hospital – lung capacity tests; Decatur Nursing and Rehab – blood pressure and blood glucose checks; Wise Choices Pregnancy Resource Center – pregnancy tests kits provided; and Carter Blood Care – blood donations. Don’t forget to call the Moncrief Cancer Center at 800-405-7739 to schedule your fully funded mammogram.

North Texas Community Hospital will conduct the following screenings for $5: total cholesterol (fasting recommended); PSA for men; thyroid; glucose; and anemia. One other key feature of the Health Fair will be school immunizations offered by Movax for $14 to $22.

Booth space is still available by emailing Dena Silvers at silvers@embarqmail.com. Sponsorship of Fun Run door prizes are still being sought as well.
