3-VEHICLE WRECK – Two helicopter ambulances were launched to a 3-vehicle wreck at the intersection of Farm Road 2123 and Farm Road 51 in the Cottondale area shortly before 8 a.m. as Update was going to press. More information will be posted as it is available at WCMessenger.com.

LOAD LOST – A truck driver lost his load after his trailer snapped in Rhome yesterday morning and spilled a massive segment of a wind turbine. The metal cylinder weighed 131,000 pounds. It came to a rest in the ditch near the railroad tracks. The Business 81/287 exit headed north into Rhome was closed from mid-morning until early evening as firefighters waited for a crane to come in and reload the equipment onto a new trailer. The driver, Hans Hitzeman, 52, of Winnsboro, was uninjured but shaken up by the incident. The force of his trailer twisting behind him caused the windows to pop out of his cab and ripped several tires off the trailer. “I gave it everything I had to keep it upright,” he said.

COMMISSIONER APPOINTED – County Commissioner Kevin Burns was chosen to serve on the board of directors for the Texas Conference of Urban Counties. He’ll be vice president of the Education Committee and will serve on the Policy Committee. Burns has served three, two-year terms on the Policy Committee, but this will be his first term as a board member. Read more in the midweek Messenger on newsstands today.

THORNELL PROMOTED – Rhome’s Chisholm Trail Middle School Principal Rob Thornell has been promoted to executive director of curriculum and staff development of Northwest Independent School District. He replaces Mike Schwei who will remain in his position through Nov. 30.

BOIL NOTICE OFF – Runaway Bay residents no longer need to boil water prior to consumption per a notice given around noon yesterday by Runaway Bay City Hall. A major water leak Saturday afternoon prompted the warning. A clean water sample obtained yesterday proved the water to once again be safe for consumption without boiling first.

SLIDELL TOPS CHICO – Todd McCormick won his debut on the Slidell Greyhounds’ bench Tuesday as the Greyhounds beat the Chico Dragons 52-34. In girls action, Slidell beat Chico 39-34 behind 29 points from Brooke Rhodes.

WISE COUNTY HISTORICAL SOCIETY - The Wise County Historical Society will meet a week early 3 p.m. Thursday at the Wise County Heritage Museum in Decatur. Jack Grainer will speak and annual awards will be presented.

CARE PACKAGES  – Rann Elementary PTO in Decatur is making care packages for military personnel deployed abroad. Donated items can be dropped off at the front office. Suggested items are Chapstick, wipes, beef jerky, hard candy and magazines.

TOYS FOR NEEDY KIDS – New, unwrapped items for the Marine Corps Reserve’s “Toys for Tots” program may be left in Decatur at three locations: CiCi’s Pizza on Farm Road 51 South; Comprehensive Testing Solutions at 1700 West Business 380; and Klement Chrysler-Jeep-Dodge-Ram on US 81/287 North. Last day to leave toys is Dec. 17 at the dealership and CTS and on Dec. 18 at the eatery.
