The Decatur Lady Eagles swim team began the season with a victory at The Colony Sprint Invitational Saturday.

Decatur won seven events, including two relays, to finish with a meet-best 93 points. Aledo took second with 89.5.

“I was really proud of all the swimmers on Saturday,” said Decatur coach Doris Dennard. “I only took a small team to the meet. They swam good times for the first meet of the year.

“We are looking forward to an exciting season. We had some good swimmers returning this year, and we picked up some freshmen that have been swimming with the club team Quest,” she said.

The Decatur quartet of Katey Rowden, Reagan Ralston, Hayley Raasch and Haley Dennard won the 100-yard freestyle relay in 51.47.

Rowden, Kate Grant, Raasch and Dennard took first in the 200 freestyle relay in 1:53.66.

The relays were two of the four first-place finishes for Rowden in her first high school meet. She won the 100 freestyle with a lone time under a minute, swimming 56.78. Rowden won the 50 butterfly in 29.27.

Dennard also won four events. She took first in the 25 freestyle in 12.63, and 50 freestyle in 27.30.

Raasch won the 50 backstroke in 33.08. She finished fifth in the 100 individual medley, swimming 1:15.41.

Grant was third in the 200 freestyle, swimming 2:20.4.

The Decatur team of Andie Keller, Bailey Phariss, Grant and Ralston took 11th in the 100 medley in 1:05.75.

The Decatur boys finished 12th with six points.

“The boys team has strong swimmers, but the number of swimmers is still small,” coach Dennard said.

Logan Huff took seventh in the 50 freestyle in 26.7. He was 17th in the 100 freestyle in 1:01.4.
