Led by a pair of top-eight finishes by freshman Katey Rowden, the Decatur Lady Eagles swim team brought home 11th place at the Texas Interscholastic Swimming Coaches Association Invitational in Frisco Saturday.

“It was all of the top swimmers in North Texas,” said Decatur coach Doris Dennard. “The meet was a qualifiers meet, and swimmers had to meet a time standard to get in. The top 16 advanced to finals on Saturday.

”We had two relays and three individual events in the finals. This is the first time we have swam on Saturday. We had some personal bests on Friday and Saturday. The athletes have been working hard, and their times are starting to show it.”

Rowden took sixth in the 100-yard freestyle with a personal best of 55.6 seconds. She also finished eighth in the 50 freestyle in 25.67.

Haley Dennard finished 11th in the 50 freestyle in 26.1.

Rowden and Dennard joined Reagan Ralston and Audry McCreary on the 200 freestyle relay that took seventh in the finals, swimming a team best 1:47.85.

The team of McCreary, Baley Phariss, Rowden and Dennard was 13th in the 200 medley relay, swimming 2:05.15 in the finals.
