Decatur swimmers take second at meet

The Decatur Eagles and Lady Eagles swim teams both scored second-place finishes Saturday in their final meet before the District 6-4A meet.

The Lady Eagles finished with 79 points in the five-team meet. Abilene Wylie won the meet with 101 points.

The Eagles scored 55 points. Wichita Falls Rider took first with 77 points.

“We swam really well Saturday,” said Decatur coach Doris Dennard. “We had numerous personal bests.”

The Lady Eagles won four events, including the 400-yard freestyle relay. The quartet of Haley Dennard, Casie Morgan, Andie Keller and Guirnalda Lopez was first in 4:41.69.

Dennard captured first in the 50-yard freestyle, swimming a personal best 27.41. Keller finished eighth in 31.24, Madison Minor 12th in 36.36 and Kristina Pishotta 16th in 39.28.

Dennard also won the 100-yard freestyle in 1:01. Morgan took second in 1:09.57. Jaci Kidd finished seventh in 1:22.14 and Madison ninth in 1:26.22.

Morgan won the 200-yard freestyle in 2:34.02. Lopez was second in 2:47.96, Bailey Phariss fifth in 3:06.3 and Megan O’Flaherty sixth in 3:32.22.

Phariss finished third in the 100-yard breaststroke in a personal best 1:36.84.

In the 100-yard backstroke, Keller took fourth in 1:28.83. Lopez was fifth in 1:30.54, O’Flaherty eighth in 1:49.5 and Pishotta ninth in 1:50

The girls’ 200-yard freestyle relay of Morgan, Keller, Lopez and Dennard swam 2:00.18 for second.

The Eagles’ lone win was the 400-yard freestyle relay. The foursome of Dosson Lewthwaite, Logan Huff, Daniel Smyers and David Talley won in 4:17.72. The quartet was second in the 200-yard freestyle in 1:46.42.

Talley took second in the 100-yard freestyle in a personal best 56.33. Smyers was fourth in 1:00.88 and Ethan Stallard 10th in 1:19.2.

Talley finished third in the 50-yard freestyle in 24.76. Huff was seventh in 28.17.

Lewthwaite swam a personal best 1:09.08 to take second in the 100-yard backstroke. Huff finished third in 1:26.8.

Smyers took sixth in the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:21.7.

In the 200-yard freestyle, Robert Sellers finished fourth in 3:01. Stallard took fifth, finishing less than a second behind Sellers.

Sellers was third in the 500-yard freestyle in 8:15.93.

The District 6-4A meet is Jan. 22 at the Denton Aquatic Center.
