The Decatur Eagles and Lady Eagles swimmers qualified for the Class 4A Region II finals in 11 events at Monday’s prelims in Keller.
The finals were held Tuesday afternoon at the Keller ISD Natatorium after winter weather pushed them back from last Friday and Saturday.
Decatur had four relays in the top eight Monday to compete for state berth. But only the top finishers in each event are guaranteed a state bid. The other state qualifiers are picked by times from across the other regions.
The Lady Eagles’ 200-yard freestyle team of Casie Morgan, Guirnalda Lopez, Hayley Raasch and Haley Dennard entered finals third with a time of 1:52.03. The same foursome is fifth in the 400-yard freestyle with a 4:21.51.
The girls 200-yard medley relay of Andie Keller, Bailey Phariss, Lopez and Morgan is seventh with a 2:20.33.
The Decatur boys will have the 200-yard medley quartet of Dosson Lewthwaite, Daniel Smyers, Arin Blaylock and David Talley in the finals as the eighth seed with a 1:59.14. That quartet is seventh with a 1:42.23 in the 200-yard freestyle.
Individually, the Lady Eagles’ Raasch is fourth in the 200-yard medley with a 2:31.76 and second in the 100-yard backstroke with a 1:08. She is less than half a second away from first in the backstroke.
Dennard is second in the 100-yard freestyle with a 58.72 and third in the 50 with a 26.83.
The Eagles’ Talley is second in the 50 with a 23.61.
