Funeral for Doris Vestal Briley Deaton, 85, of Fort Worth is 10 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 16, at Thompson’s Harveson and Cole Funeral Home in Fort Worth with the Revs. Lynn D. Moore and Verne Fuqua officiating. Burial will follow at 2 p.m. at Chico Cemetery.
Deaton died Saturday, Nov. 12, 2011, in Fort Worth.
Born Oct. 7, 1926, in Chico to Bessie Lorene Goad and Mert Clarence Briley, she graduated in 1943 from Chico High School. She married John Carlyle Deaton in 1945 and worked as a medical assistant for Dr. Walter Petta for 35 years.
She was a member of St. Paul and Edgepark United Methodist Churches and was a 50-year member of the Eastern Star. Deaton sewed, bowled, did crossword puzzles and spent time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Deaton was preceded in death by her husband of 44 years; son John Carlyle Deaton Jr.; sister Venita Briley Lukens; and twin grandchildren Noah and Sharon Mendias.
She is survived by daughter SuzAnn Gardner and husband, Spencer, of Millsap; grandchildren John Gardner and Tami of Vilonia, Ark., Kelli Mendias and husband, Michael, of Fort Worth; Aaron Deaton and fiancee, Katie Smith, of Arlington and Briley Deaton of Parker, Colo.; great-grandchildren James and Jessica Gardner, Zachary and Peyton Mendias, Chloe and Gavin Deaton; brother-in-law Jim Deaton; and extended family.
