For the second time in less than a year, Bridgeport lawyer Mike Simpson has been awarded an honor of considerable recognition.

The 34-year lawyer was recently named to the Top 100 Trial Lawyers in the State of Texas by the National Trial Lawyers Association.

“To be named to the top 100 of hundreds of thousands of lawyers -that’s very neat,” Simpson said. “It’s also neat because my peers picked me.”

In addition to peer review, selection for the honor was based on legal research, jury verdicts and previous cases.

However, the seasoned veteran humbly claims it’s his years of practice that most helped him obtain the honor.

“Anytime you hang around as long as I have, they recognize that,” he said. “Age is a big asset.”

Simpson has practiced law locally since graduating from Baylor Law School in 1977.

A few months after earning his juris doctor degree, Simpson joined the law firm of Woodruff, Fostel and Wren in Decatur.

He became a partner in 1979 and practiced with the firm until 1998, when he partnered with Derrick Boyd to start the law firm of Simpson and Boyd.

Their civil litigation practice has expanded to eight lawyers.

Being named one of the top 100 trial lawyers in the state is one of many accolades the seasoned lawyer has collected in his career.

Last November, he was sworn in before justices of the United States Supreme Court.

The designation enables Simpson to practice before the U.S. Supreme Court should one of his cases reach that level.

In addition, he has been named a Texas Monthly Super Lawyer by his peers every year since the award’s inception in 2003.

“The Top 100 is one of those awards like those that you treasure,” Simpson said. “It’s quite an honor.”
