Breaking news – Chase ends in wreck

A high-speed pursuit ended with a motorcycle operator being flown to a Fort Worth hospital Friday night in Aurora. Russell Dean Hesteande, 47, was clocked at 80 miles per hour southbound on U.S. 81/287 around 8:15 when DPS Trooper David Riggs attempted to pull Hesteande over. Instead, Hesteande exited the Texas 114 west exit at Rhome, ran the stop sign and proceeded to head west on Texas 114 at speeds of up to 100 miles per hour, according to Riggs. Hesteande turned southbound on Farm Road 718 where he lost control in a curve, went into a skid, slid off the road and struck a barbed wire fence. He was not wearing a helmet. Hesteande was flown to John Peter Smith Hospital. Riggs said two bottles of alcohol were found in his possession, including one bottle that was almost empty. Hesteande had a Fort Worth address on his driver’s license, but Riggs said he thought the man is living in the Bridgeport area.
