Two people were flown from the scene of a three-vehicle accident on Farm Road 51 just south of Farm Road 2123 in Cottondale around 7:45 Wednesday morning.

Billy Whatley of Bridgeport was southbound in a silver Dodge Dynasty on FM 51 when he swerved to miss a pickup  that had slowed to turn left onto County Road 4699.

According to investigators, it appears Whatley crossed into oncoming traffic, striking a tan Buick Lucerne driven by Clyde Herring of Eastland.

Whatley and a passenger in the Buick car, Herring’s wife whose name was not available on scene, were flown to John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth.

Herring was transported by ground ambulance to Wise Regional Health System in Decatur.
