I hope that many of you have already begun forming your team of eight for the 13th Annual Wise County Walk Across Texas, March 14 to May 9.
Walk Across Texas is a fun and flexible way to exercise and establish the healthy habit of physical activity. To find out more about how to register for Walk Across Texas, call the Wise County Extension office (940) 627-3341. Online registration is also available at http://walkacrosstexas.tamu.edu.
The “kickoff” event, scheduled to begin at noon Monday, March 14, at the Extension Office, will feature cooking demonstrations that exhibit ways for participants to modify their favorite recipes to reduce fat and calories. Samples of the dishes prepared will be served. Space is limited, so Walk Across Texas participants should make reservations by calling the Extension office.
We know that physical activity and nutrition work together for better health, but sometimes maintaining the proper balance of “energy in” (calories from food and beverages) and “energy out” (calories burned for basic body functions and physical activities) can be a challenge. As a part of the food demonstrations, I will be sharing ideas to effectively maintain the balance of “energy in” and “energy out.”
So, dust off those walking shoes, form your team of eight and join us on Monday, March 14, to kick off Walk Across Texas 2011.
