Night life lights

“As far as we can discern, the sole purpose of human existence is to kindle a light in the darkness of mere being.”
– Carl Jung

Blue, green, yellow and red laser lights cut through curling cigarette smoke like an alien ship landing on a barren, fog-covered planet.

Two figures swirl in the darkness. Western music blares. Ice dances against glass. Voices murmur like hornets in the background.

Our roaming photographer captured this image at Red’s Take 5 Sports Bar and Grill in Bridgeport on a recent Saturday night. Like a painter toiling in the dark, the scene was difficult to shoot. All settings were switched to manual, including the focus.

After several test shots, our photog waited until the silhouettes lined up just right on the dance floor before it could all come together, and a slice of Wise County nightlife was caught.

Meanwhile, the pair on the dance floor fell away from the world. They basked in a single moment, made meaning from the darkness.
