Connected to the past

The pale-white, gloved hand of a soldier trails over the names of U.S. servicemen who died during the Vietnam War.

His hand, reflected in the granite, appears like that of another soldier reaching back, fighting to be remembered.

When we remember those that passed, they echo from beyond the mystical veil of death. Honoring the veterans who paid the ultimate sacrifice allows their memories to breathe, persist and influence.

Our roaming photographer captured this image when a traveling Vietnam Memorial Wall visited the grounds of Decatur High School in December 2008. It was a secondary photograph, made to peer into detail. A line is kept sharp, while the rest blurs into background.
