NEW PRINCIPAL – Carson Elementary will have a new principal in the fall, but he will be a familiar face. At last week’s school board meeting, Kyle Sorg was hired as principal for the school. Sorg has spent the past two years as assistant principal. He will take over for Kim Barker, who has left the district.

NEW WATER TANK – The city of Chico plans to begin construction of a new, elevated water tank by the end of the year. The new tank will replace the three elevated tanks currently in use. The city council approved a new tank earlier this month. The city recently received a $350,000 grant from the Texas Department of Rural Affairs that will go toward the estimated $600,000 bill for the new tank. The city will use time warrants to cover their portion of the cost. The project is in the design phase, and the city plans to accept bids in mid-August or early September.

FUN NIGHT – Aurora Baptist Church invites the public to a “Family Fun Night” 6 to 8 p.m. tomorrow at the church. The event will include a live band, water slide, bounce house and hot dogs.

BLOOD DRIVE – A Carter BloodCare blood drive sponsored by the First Christian Church of Wise County is 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Saturday, July 10, at 101 4th Street in Paradise. For information, call Virginia Cleveland at (940) 231-0831.

BAKE SALE – A bake sale benefiting Caleb Daugherty of Sanger will be held during business hours Thursday through Saturday at S&J Pharmacy in Decatur. He is an employee of the pharmacy and was injured in a car accident in early June.

RAFFLE – Decatur Baseball League is selling raffle tickets for a Chevy Malibu or Equinox. Tickets are available until noon today at Decatur Eye Center. Call (940) 389-7730.

FOURTH FEST – The Greater Runaway Bay Alliance and the city of Runaway Bay present the annual 4th Fest on Saturday. Activities will start at 6 p.m. at the Civic Center area. There will be children’s activities, food and craft booths, live entertainment 6 to 9 p.m. and fireworks around 9:30 at dusk. The golf cart parade is at 6:30 p.m., and the theme is Vacation Destinations. Prizes will be given for best decorated.

FUNERALS – Service for Ella Bryant, 88, of Bridgeport is 10 a.m. today at Hawkins Funeral Chapel in Bridgeport with burial at East Bridgeport Cemetery.

FUNERAL for Noah John Carstens, 2-month-old son of Corey and Lisa Brownlee Carstens of Bowie, is 10 a.m. Friday at Hineston Tabernacle Church with burial in Hemphill Star Cemetery in Boyce, La. Hawkins Bridgeport is handling local arrangements.

SERVICE for Leland Kimbrell, 79, of Bridgeport is pending at Hawkins Bridgeport.

FUNERAL for John Ransom, 92, of Decatur is 10 a.m. today at Coker-Hawkins Funeral Home in Decatur with burial at Bethel Cemetery.

FUNERAL for Aboud Malki Ary, 61 of Decatur is 11 a.m. Thursday at Eagle Drive Baptist Church with burial at Oaklawn Cemetery. Family visitation is 6-8 tonight at Coker-Hawkins.

FUNERAL for Alice McKinnon, 92, of Rhome is 2 p.m. Friday at Boyd Church of Christ with burial at Aurora Cemetery.  Family visitation is 6-8 p.m. Thursday. Coker-Hawkins is handling arrangements.
