TANK BATTERY EXPLOSION – Two men were injured, and one was taken to a Denton hospital yesterday following an explosion at a tank battery in northern Wise County. The explosion occurred at a well site owned by Gilbow Oilfield Services off Farm Road 455 about four miles west of Farm Road 51 around 12:30. Firefighters from Greenwood/Slidell and Sanger fire departments arrived on the scene to find the tank crumpled and burned. The blast had moved the massive metal tank several yards and sent several men flying through the air. The fire was quickly contained and extinguished. The person taken to the hospital suffered first and/or second degree burns. Investigators said the injuries did not appear to be life-threatening. He was welding when the explosion occurred, and Greenwood/Slidell VFD Chief Adam North said it appears that the electric welding arc ignited fumes, blowing up the canister.
