GUN AT SCHOOL – School officials confiscated a handgun from a fifth grade student at Boyd Intermediate School on Monday. Another student saw it in his backpack and reported it. School officials then confronted the child and confiscated the unloaded weapon. The student was suspended pending further investigation. A meeting is scheduled between the child’s parents and Boyd ISD administrators on Thursday. It is unknown why the boy brought the gun to the school or what he intended to do with it. CHAIRMAN RESIGNS – Tim Rieger announced Tuesday he is resigning from the Decatur Planning and Zoning Commission. The chairman said his schedule prevents him from attending meetings. He has served about 10 years. The commission approved the final plat for the Taco Casa addition, which is the location of the Golden Wok restaurant.

FIRE – Fire destroyed an unoccupied double-wide off CR 3838 last night. Balsora/Boonsville and Bridgeport fire departments responded to the  fire at about 10 p.m. Firefighters quickly put the fire out.

CONSERVATION MEETING – The USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) and the Wise Soil and Water Conservation District invite the public and any agencies with an interest in conservation issues to participate in a local work group meeting at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Wise County USDA Service Center in Decatur. The purpose of the meeting is to receive input from a broad range of local agencies, organizations, businesses and individuals that have an interest in natural resource conditions and needs in Wise County. TAG-IN – Wise County Youth Fair tag-in for lambs, goats, market hogs, non-registered beef heifers, dairy sale heifers, and non-registered boer breeding (does over 3 months) is 8-11 a.m. Saturday at the Sheriff’s Posse Grounds in Decatur.

FUNERALS – Service for June Griffeth, 81, of Haslet is 11 a.m. today at the Rhome Church of Christ with burial at Aurora Cemetery.

PRIVATE service for Terri V. Creson Adams, 49, will be held later this week at Long Branch Cemetery in Rising Star. Coker-Hawkins Funeral Home in Decatur is handling both of the above services.

SERVICES for Connie Diane Price, 64, of Decatur and Salomae Holgate, 97, of Bridgeport are pending at Coker-Hawkins.

GRAVESIDE service for C.J. Mayrand, 73, of Alvord is 2:30 p.m. Friday at the Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery with full military honors. Family visitation is 6-8 p.m. Thursday at Jones Family Funeral Home in Bridgeport.

FUNERAL for Charleen Lamb, 74, of Bridgeport is pending at Jones Family Funeral Home.
