MAJOR ACCIDENTS – Medics and fire departments have been busy this morning responding to accidents. Around 7 a.m., a major accident was reported a two miles south of Decatur on U.S. 81/287 at CR 4227. The accident sent Ray M. Petty, 30, of Decatur to Harris Methodist Hospital in Fort Worth. As Update was going to press, rescuers were responding to a major accident on Farm Road 51 at County Road 3191 involving “five or six” vehicles with road blockage. On officer on the scene said there were no major injuries. Around 8 a.m., two accidents were reported on Farm Road 2264 near Decatur. Foggy conditions were reducing visibility.
WATER IMPROVEMENTS - Installation is under way at Lake Bridgeport for an aeration system to benefit water users in Bridgeport, Decatur, the West Wise Rural Water Supply District and a power plant. The cooperative venture with Tarrant Regional Water District is aimed at helping control water quality problems during times when the water level stratifies. Cost is about $500,000 and is being split by the entities.

ROAD CLOSED – A portion of South Weatherford Street in Chico will be closed today for installation of a water line. The road will be closed from the Chico Cemetery to Texas 101.
COED VOLLEYBALL – The Fit Club is registering for a coed volleyball league, which will begin play Feb. 16. The Tuesday night league will run through March 9. A post-season tournament will be held March 13. Each team must have a minimum of seven players, including three women. The cost is $45 per player. The deadline to register is Feb. 4. CHAMBER LUNCHEON - The January Bridgeport Chamber of Commerce luncheon is 11:30 a.m. Thursday at the Bridgeport Community Center. A representative from North Texas Community Hospital is guest speaker. Cost is $10, and reservations are due today by calling (940) 683-2076.
PROJECT GRADUATION – Bridgeport Project Graduation meets at 5:30 tonight in the Bridgeport High School Commons Area. All parents with a Bridgeport senior are invited.

FUNERALS – Service for James Hale, 48, of Bridgeport is 2 p.m. Thursday at Jones Family Funeral Home in Bridgeport with burial at 2 p.m. Friday at Dyer Cemetery in Van Buren, Ark. Family visitation is 6-8 tonight at the funeral home.
FUNERAL for Paul Grimes, 82, of Chico is 2 p.m. Thursday at Crafton Baptist Church with burial at Chico Cemetery. Family visitation is 6-8 tonight at Hawkins Funeral Home in Bridgeport.
