CHEERING CHANGE – The Boyd School Board last night unanimously approved an amendment to the cheerleading constitution that prevents freshmen from trying out for the varsity squad. Tryouts are today.

PARK TALK – The Northwest School Board discussed an agreement with the city of Rhome to construct a city park on a portion of land purchased for the district’s third high school. The city requested use of about one acre of land. If the district agrees, the city will be able to apply for a park grant. The trustees spoke positively of the agreement at Monday’s meeting, but will not vote on the item until the March 29 meeting.

BOARD APPOINTMENTS – The Decatur City Council appointed Lesa Warren and Mark Duncum to the board of Wise Regional Health System Monday to fill two vacancies. They will serve until December 2011.

SCV MEETING – The Sons of Confederate Veterans meet at 7 tonight at the Wesley Center of the First United Methodist Church in Decatur.

BOOK FAIR – Rann Elementary in Decatur will hold a book fair from 5-7 tonight.

OFFICE CLOSED – The Precinct 2 Justice of the Peace office will be closed Wednesday for repairs of heating/air conditioning unit at the Sheriff’s Department. The office will reopen at 8 a.m. Thursday. All court appearances will be extended until Thursday.

BAND BOOSTERS – The Bridgeport Band Booster meeting for March has been canceled. The next meeting will be 6 p.m. April 13 in the high school band hall.

OPEN HOUSE – Bridgeport Intermediate School will hold an open house 6-7:30 p.m. Wednesday.

RAIN ENDS – After a couple of rainy days, sunshine and warmer temperatures should return today. Yesterday’s rainfall totals include 1.2 inches in Slidell, 0.39 in Decatur, 0.35 in Chico and 0.05 in Bridgeport.

FUNERALS – Memorial service for Mark Parizon, 49, of Rhome is 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Coker-Hawkins Funeral Chapel in Decatur.

MEMORIAL service for Mechthildei Pedrick, 83, of Decatur will be held at a later date in New York. Coker-Hawkins is handling arrangements.

SERVICE for Brownie Mae Sanders, 91, formerly of Alvord is pending at Coker-Hawkins.

SERVICE is pending for Cara Sylvester, 22, formerly of Decatur at Allen Funeral Home in Wylie.
