POWER TALK – Wise County Commissioners meet today and will discuss and possibly take action on a resolution to the Public Utility Commission of Texas in regards to the county’s recommended routing of a transmission line planned to run across southern Wise County. The meeting is at 9 a.m. at the court house. Last Thursday, a group of residents met at the First Baptist Church in Paradise in an effort to form a coalition to oppose Oncor’s preferred route.

BROOKSHIRE’S GROUNDBREAKING – The long-awaited Brookshire’s grocery store will break ground in Bridgeport at a ceremony at 10 a.m. next Tuesday. The store will be located at U.S. 380 and Lawdwin Street.

FLAG FOOTBALL – A flag football league is forming for summer play. Registration deadline for adult, high school and middle school teams is Friday. The first games are Monday, July 12, at Renshaw Park in Decatur. To register or for more information, call Lisa at (469) 583-5048.

PUPPET SHOW – The Summer Reading Club at Decatur Public Library presents a puppet show at 11 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. today. Also, come by the library anytime to pick up a reading log and get prizes. CLASS REGISTRATION – Weatherford College Wise County registration for Summer 2 courses is ongoing. The WCWC offices are open 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. today through Thursday. The first day of class for Summer 2 is Monday, July 12. For more information and to register for classes, call (940) 627-2690.

PARTICIPATION SOUGHT – The Wise County Farm Service Agency (FSA) will hold a public meeting at 10:30 a.m. today at the USDA Service Center in Decatur to discuss the upcoming 2010 county committee nomination and election process. Aug. 2 is the deadline for eligible voters in Local Administrative Area No. 3 to nominate themselves or other local producers to serve on the FSA County Committee. The LAA No. 3 area covers the southern portion of Wise County from a line running from Jack County east to Tarrant and Denton counties south of U.S. 380.

FOOD PANTRY OPEN – The Newark Area Food Pantry, 502B Main St., is open every Tuesday from 9:30 a.m. to noon. The pantry serves 76078 and 76071 zip code areas. Bring proof of residence to sign up.

SERVICE for Wanda Lockwood, 66, of Rhome will be held at a later date. Coker-Hawkins is handling arrangements.

FUNERAL for Monna Brown, 95, of Boyd is 10 a.m. Wednesday at the First United Methodist Church in Boyd with burial at Boyd Cemetery. Family visitation is 6-8 tonight at Christian-Hawkins Funeral Home in Boyd.

SERVICE for Wanda Sue Boyd, 62, of Justin is pending at Christian-Hawkins.

FUNERAL for C.D. Sipes, 87, of Paradise is 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Friendship Baptist Church in Boyd with burial at Friendship Cemetery. Family visitation is 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at Hawkins Funeral Home in Bridgeport.

FUNERAL for Frances Huerta, 60, of Bridgeport is tentatively set for 10 a.m. Wednesday at Hawkins Funeral Home with burial at Cemeterio Mexicano in Bridgeport. Family visitation is 6-8 tonight at Hawkins Bridgeport.
