SPRING STORM - Our first thunderstorm of spring brought rain and hail to Wise County yesterday afternoon. Rainfall totals included 1.63 inches in Decatur, 1.5 in Bridgeport, 1.2 in Slidell, 0.6 in Alvord and 0.3 in Chico. Parts of Rhome and Newark lost power for a time during the storm. No major accidents were reported, although traffic on U.S. 81/287 was nearly at a standstill at times due to the heavy rain.

YOUTH FAIR – It’s Day 4 of the Wise County Youth Fair, and it will be a busy day. Today’s shows include rabbits, sheep, goats, poultry and market swine. Keep up with all the action through the Messenger’s Twitter site at http://twitter.com/wcmessenger.

BOOK SALE – The Bridgeport Public Library book sale is 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. today, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday. Hardbacks are $1, paperbacks are 50 cents and Saturday is $1 per sack.

COMMUNITY GARDEN – The Decatur Community Garden’s spring membership drive is 7 tonight at the Wesley Center of the First United Methodist Church in Decatur. For more information, call (940) 644-2473 or visit www.decaturcommunitygarden.org.

DONKEY BASKETBALL - The Paradise High School band will host donkey basketball at 7 p.m. Friday at the high school gym.

FUNDRAISER – Wise County Youth Volleyball will hold a fundraiser today from 4 to 9 p.m. at Cici’s Pizza in Decatur.

RELAY FUNDRAISER - A hot dog lunch fundraiser to benefit Relay for Life is at 11 a.m. Friday at First Financial Bank in Bridgeport. Dogs are $3 each, and additional donations will be accepted.

HEALTH FORUM – The Wise County Health Forum meets at 9 this morning at the Decatur City Hall Community Room.

50-INNING GAME – The Boyd Youth Association will have its annual 50-inning game from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday at Lee Snodgrass Park in Boyd. The event will also include bounce houses, face painting, action pictures, silent auction and lunch.

OFFICE CLOSED – Wise County Indigent Health Care/EMS office will be closed Wednesday, March 31, for training and will resume normal business hours Thursday, April 1.

FUNERALS – Service for Glenda Friend, 61, of Bridgeport is 10 a.m. today at Bible Baptist Church in Bridgeport with burial at West Bridgeport Cemetery. Jones Family Funeral Home in Bridgeport is handling arrangements.

MEMORIAL service for Bobby Stapp Sr., 57, of Park Springs is 4 p.m. Saturday at his home. Hawkins Funeral Home in Bridgeport is handling arrangements.

MEMORIAL service for Opal Hess, 97, of Chico is 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Morris Memorial Methodist Church in Chico. Hawkins Bridgeport is handling arrangements.

GRAVESIDE service for Jane Matthews, 60, of Wichita Falls, formerly of Bridgeport, is 11 a.m. Friday at Poolville Cemetery. Family visitation is 6-8 tonight at Hawkins Bridgeport.
