FIRE RULED ARSON – Wise County Fire Marshal Marc Dodd has ruled arson as the cause of the fire at a vacant house in Newark early Monday. Dodd said Wednesday afternoon that the case remains under investigation. Newark, Rhome and Boyd firefighters extinguished the fire that gutted a house in the 300 block of County Road 4856.

COMMITTEE MEETS WITH CITY – On Tuesday, the newly formed Electric Utility Advisory Committee met with Bridgeport Mayor Don Majka and staff to go over the concerns brought up by residents during the Feb. 16 council meeting regarding high electric bills. The committee has developed a list of action items for staff to research and provide information back to the committee in the next two weeks. A “community meeting” is planned for late March or early April to present their findings.

PLAYOFF HOOPS – The Decatur Eagles will start the playoffs tonight with a Class 3A Region I area game against Gatesville at 7 p.m. in Granbury. Check wcmessenger.com/sports/update for results.

EARLY VOTING – Only two days of early voting are left for the March 2 primary elections. Yesterday, 125 voted in the Republican primary and 13 in the Democratic primary. Early voting is 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Decatur Civic Center.

HISTORICAL SOCIETY – The Wise County Historical Society meets at 3 p.m. today at the Heritage Museum in Decatur.

FUNDRAISER – Boyd Animal Hospital will host a Schwan’s fundraiser from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. today. A portion of Schwan’s proceeds will benefit the Heifers Hoofin’ it for a Cure team that is participating in the Susan G. Komen three-day walk.

BAKE SALE – A bake sale benifiting Wise County Relay for Life is at 9 a.m. tomorrow at First State banks in Bridgeport and Paradise.

OFF 380 PERFORMANCE – The Off 380 Players’ production of “Arsenic and Old Lace” is 7:30 p.m. today through Saturday and 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the Bridgeport Stage. Tickets are $12 for adults and $6 for students. For reservations, visit www.off380players.org.

COLLEGE OPEN HOUSE – Weatherford College Wise County is hosting an open house 1 to 4 p.m. Friday. Guests can tour the facility at 307 S. Cates St. in Decatur and visit with faculty and staff. Refreshments will be served.

RHINESTONE ROUNDUP – The fourth annual Wise Republican Women Rhinestone Roundup Fundraiser dinner reservation deadline is Friday. The March 6 event will feature speakers, a silent auction and gourmet meal. Call (940) 575-4754 for information.

HEALTH GROUP MEETING – The Wise County Health Group meets at 9 a.m. today at the Decatur City Hall community room.

UNITED WAY MEETING – United Way of Wise County’s annual meeting is 5:30-7 tonight at the Decatur Civic Center. Major donors will be recognized and new officers and directors will be elected.

QUEENS DEADLINE – Wise County Youth Fair 2010 Queens Contest nominees should return completed entry forms and photos by Monday, March 1.
