EARLY VOTING – Early voting for Saturday’s city and school elections continues through tomorrow. Voters have contested school board races in Alvord, Boyd, Bridgeport, Chico, Decatur, Northwest and Paradise. Voters in Alvord, Boyd, Bridgeport, Newark, Rhome and Runaway Bay have decisions to make in city leadership positions. The Newark ballot also includes a proposition to legalize the sale of alcohol. ANOTHER WET MONTH - For the fifth month in a row, Wise County received above average rainfall. Weather watcher Doyle Green in Decatur reported 3.56 inches in April, above the average of 3.28. For the year, Decatur has received 15.84 inches. May is typically the wettest month of the year with average rainfall of 5.72 inches.

TEACHER APPRECIATION – Don’t forget to bring an apple to school. Today is the beginning of Teacher Appreciation Week. It runs through Friday.

OLYMPATHON – The Wise County Olympathon is Tuesday at Bulls Stadium in Bridgeport. Opening ceremony is 9 a.m. and final events end at 2 p.m.

RELAY MEETINGS - A Wise County Relay for Life Committee meeting is 5:30 tonight at the sheriff’s office courtroom. Team captain’s meeting and bank night will follow at 6:30. Another team captain’s meeting is 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 11, at the sheriff’s office courtroom. Team baskets for the silent auction at Relay can be brought to tonight’s meeting and must be turned in by the May 11 meeting when captains will receive team T-shirts.

KINDER ROUNDUP - Chico Elementary pre-k and kindergarten roundup is May 3-7. Forms are in the elementary office.

KICKOFFS – Decatur School District will hold elementary kickoffs tomorrow and Thursday. Carson and Young Elementary Kickoff is 5 to 7 p.m. tomorrow at Carson. Call (940) 393-7500 for information. STICK HORSE RODEO – Cowkids ages 6 and under are invited to enter the Butterfield Stage Days Festival Stick Horse Rodeo at Harwood Park, May 8, at 11 a.m. Contestants will compete in barrel racing, bronc busting and best rodeo costume. RODEO PINK - Raffle tickets for a hand-made western quilt are on sale with all proceeds going to Rodeo Pink. The quilt can be seen this week at First Financial Bank in Bridgeport. Tickets can be purchased at the bank, Edward Jones in Bridgeport, iCopy in Decatur and Bridgeport, the Wise County Treasurer’s office and Bridgeport Chamber of Commerce. SONFLOWER CAMP – Sonflower Camp for kids with disabilities is 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. June 7, 8 and 9 at Joe Wheeler Park.
