TRUCK FIRE – Fire gutted an empty tractor trailer in the lot at Watts Excavation Sunday evening. Decatur firefighters with an engine and a tanker extinguished the fire at 1703 South Trinity shortly after 6:30 p.m. Firefighters prevented the flames from spreading to another tractor trailer parked next to the burning rig. The cause of the fire is unknown. It was not considered to be suspicious according to Decatur Deputy Chief Deroy Bennett. Estelle Watts, the wife of the Watts Excavation owner, said the truck had not been driven since Friday. “We got a call that said it was burning,” Watts said. “The fire department got down here in time to save the other truck. It could have been a lot worse. Thankfully no one got hurt.”
