K2 BAN – The Decatur City Council will consider an ordinance banning the use, purchase, possession or sale of K2, the controversial smoking substance marketed as incense but said to cause a high similar to marijuana when smoked. The council meets at 6 p.m. at city hall.
BACK TO SCHOOL – It’s the first day of school in Wise County, so watch for kids and pay attention to the speed limits in school zones.
COLLEGE TAX/BUDGET – Wise County commissioners this morning will consider a proposed budget and tax rate for the Weatherford College Branch Campus maintenance tax. The meeting is at 8:30 a.m. in the third floor jury room at the courthouse. The regular meeting of commissioners is at 9.
ALCOHOL ARREST – Saul Bautista-Ponce, 21, was arrested for driving while intoxicated Sunday evening after a one-vehicle accident in Cottondale. Trooper John Hallenbeck said Bautista-Ponce was northbound on County Road 2123 when he went off the roadway, overcorrected and went into a ditch. The car came to a stop against a tree. Bautista was arrested and charged with a DUI when he failed a field sobriety test. Found in the car were numerous open containers of alcohol.
OFFICE CLOSED – The Decatur Housing Authority offices is closed today and tomorrow for employee training.
HABITAT MEETING – Trinity Habitat for Humanity meets at 11:30 a.m. today at Cannon Realty.
COLLEGE REGISTRATION – The Weatherford College Wise County Campus will have the following registration hours this week for new and returning students: Monday 2 to 5 p.m., Tuesday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Wednesday 8 a.m. to 7 p.m., Thursday 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Friday 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Fall classes begin Monday, Aug. 30. WISE MERCHANTS – The Wise Merchants Association meets at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Decatur Public Library. Deborah King will give a presentation on “Business Etiquette-Communicate With Class.” Lunch is not provided, but you’re welcome to bring your own. For more information, visit www.wisemerchants.org.

FUNERALS – Mass of Christian burial for Omar O. Carrillo, 25, of Decatur, is 10 a.m. Wednesday at Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church in Decatur. Rosary will be said 6 p.m. Tuesday at Coker-Hawkins Funeral Home in Decatur.
MEMORIAL service for Bob Haley, 69, of Decatur is 2 p.m. Thursday at the First United Methodist Church in Decatur. Visitation is 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at Coker-Hawkins.
SERVICES for Gail Schultz, 61, and Mark Kough, 56, both of Decatur are pending at Coker-Hawkins.
SERVICES for Theresa Gillespie, 69, of Cottondale and John Denton, 18, of Terral, Okla., are pending at Hawkins Funeral Home in Bridgeport.
