FOURTH OF JULY FESTIVITIES – The Greater Runaway Bay Alliance and the city of Runaway Bay present the annual 4th Fest on Saturday. Activities start at 6 p.m. at the Civic Center area. There will be children’s activities, food and craft booths, live entertainment 6 to 9 p.m. and fireworks around 9:30, at dusk. The golf cart parade is at 6:30 p.m. The Runaway Bay Police Department encourages all visitors to arrive early in order to find parking. No parking will be allowed on the westbound shoulder of U.S. 380. Traffic will be released utilizing both lanes eastbound at the conclusion of the fireworks.

FIRECRACKER SCRAMBLE – The Runaway Bay Ladies Golf Association will hold its Firecracker Scramble Saturday to benefit the Runaway Bay Volunteer Fire Department. Registration begins at 7:30 a.m. The format is a four-person scramble. Cost per team is $200.

CLOSINGS – All county offices will be closed Monday for the Independence Day holiday. Most city offices will also be closed Monday. Newark City Hall is closed today.

POWER TO THE PEOPLE – A website has been created by a group of citizens concerned about a proposed Oncor transmission line through the south part of Wise County. Wisewatch.org contains information about the transmission lines and other related issues. According to the website, the purpose is to keep citizens aware of what is happening with proposed high voltage transmission lines in Wise, Denton, Parker and Tarrant counties.

VETERANS – The Wise County Veterans Group meets at 8:30 a.m. tomorrow at the Decatur Civic Center.

PUPPET SHOW – The Summer Reading Club at Decatur Public Library presents a puppet show at 11 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. Tuesday. Also, come by the library anytime to pick up a reading log and get prizes. CLASS REGISTRATION – Weatherford College Wise County registration for Summer 2 courses is ongoing. The WCWC offices are open July 6-8 from 8 a.m.-5:30 p.m. The first day of class for Summer 2 is Monday, July 12. For more information and to register for classes, call (940) 627-2690.

FUNERALS – Service for Leland Kimbrell, 79, of Bridgeport is 10:30 a.m. today at Hawkins Funeral Chapel in Bridgeport with burial is 1:30 p.m. in Laurel Land Cemetery in Fort Worth.

GRAVESIDE service for Lucy M. Baker, 88, of Rhome is 2 p.m. Saturday in Aurora Cemetery. Family visitation is 6-8 tonight at Christian-Hawkins Funeral Home in Boyd.

FUNERAL for Alice McKinnon, 92, of Rhome is 2 p.m. today at Boyd Church of Christ with burial at Aurora Cemetery. Coker-Hawkins Funeral Home in Decatur is handling arrangements.
