RHOME BANS K2 – Last night Rhome became the first city in Wise County to ban the sale or use of K2. Possession or distribution can result in a fine of up to $2,000. The council voted unanimously on the new law. K2 is sold as an incense at most tobacco shops but is commonly used as a marijuana substitute. No businesses in Rhome sell it.

AIRPORT RE-OPENED –  The City of Bridgeport Airport surface rehab project funded by a grant from the Texas Department of Transportation – Aviation has been completed and the airport has been re-opened. For further information, call (940) 683-3460.

CRAFT FAIR – Senior Care Decatur will have a craft fair from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. today and Saturday and 2-4 p.m. Sunday.

PARADISE YOUTH FOOTBALL – Last chance to sign up for Paradise Youth Football is 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday at Paradise City Hall.

PEEWEE FOOTBALL – Last chance to sign up for Wise County Peewee football is 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday at Bridgeport Intermediate School. Registration fee is $75. For information call Billy Young at (940) 389-5311.

BRIDGEPORT SOCCER – This is the last weekend to register for the Bridgeport Soccer fall season. Register 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday and 1-3 p.m. Sunday at the Bridgeport Library. Registration fee is $50. Call (940) 577-2363 or (940) 399-3368. Birth certificate is required for new players.

HABITAT MEETING – Trinity Habitat for Humanity will meet at 11:30 a.m. Monday at Canon Realty, 1210 S. Business 287, Suite 100 in Decatur. Those interested in donating or being involved in the organization are welcome.

MENTORS NEEDED – Five more mentors are needed for the StrengthBank Talk Groups at Bridgeport High School. Two-part mentor certification is 8-11:30 a.m. Monday and Sept. 7. Lunch is provided at both sessions. For more information call Jamie Sturdivant at (940) 683-4064.

SOCIETY MEETING – The Wise County Fossil, Rock and Mineral Club will meet at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 17, at the Wesley Center of the First United Methodist Church in Decatur. Officers will be elected.

ENROLLMENT BEGINS – Early Head Start, a new Wise County federally funded community-based program for low-income families with infants and toddlers, is now enrolling for the child development program this fall. Call EHS Decatur at (940) 627-6418 for more information.

FUNERALS – Service for Peggy Baker, 85, of Rhome is 11 a.m. Monday at Coker-Hawkins Funeral Chapel in Decatur with burial at Fairview Cemetery. Family visitation is 5-7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

SERVICE for Margaret Ann Irland, 28, of Decatur is pending at Coker-Hawkins.
