RHOME WRECK – Two people were injured in a wreck on U.S. 81/287 northbound at County Road 4838 about a mile south of Rhome around 11:25 yesterday morning. Linda Small, 62, of Haslet and Michael Ellithorpe, 61, of Bridgeport were transported to Wise Regional Health System by ground ambulance. Ellithorpe was northbound in an SUV on U.S. 81/287 when Small attempted to cross the northbound lanes. Ellithorpe collided with Small’s passenger car at the intersection. Rhome and Newark fire departments responded.

DECATUR WRECK – A Decatur woman was seriously injured in a two vehicle accident on U.S. 380 east of the sheriff’s office around 7:50 a.m. yesterday. According to Decatur Police Chief Rex Hoskins, Debra Holt, 53, of Decatur was pulling out of the TxDOT parking lot when she was struck by a westbound rock hauler. The impact caused Holt’s van to roll several times. She was flown from the scene to John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth where she was listed in serious condition late Thursday afternoon. The driver of the truck, Juan Pedroza, 30, of Fort Worth was not injured.

RAMPS REOPENED – Both boat ramps are now open at Wise County Park on Lake Bridgeport. They had been closed due to high water.

GOLF TOURNAMENT – Weatherford College Wise County is hosting a scholarship golf tournament Saturday at the Runaway Bay Golf Club. Registration is at 8 a.m. and a shotgun start is at 9.

HOMECOMING – Boyd Cemetery Homecoming is at 2 p.m. Sunday.

BENEFIT AUCTION – The estate of Lavonia Hawkins will be auctioned tomorrow to benefit the Chico Library. The house, at 309 S. Weatherford St. in Chico, will be open at 8 a.m., and the auction will start at 10 a.m. Hawkins willed all of her property to the library. Numerous antiques will be included in the sale, such as a couch, chairs, cabinets, a dining set and a buffet.

OLYMPATHON – The Wise County Olympathon is Tuesday, May 4, at Bulls Stadium in Bridgeport. Opening ceremony is 9 a.m. and final events end at 2 p.m.

BENEFIT ACCOUNT – An account has been set up to benefit 18-month-old Alora Ferrier of Boyd at Wells Fargo. Ferrier, daughter of Crystal Ferrier and Daniel Talley, was diagnosed with cancer of the retina and had the tumor and eye removed April 27. The account number is 5206002213 and will go toward associated expenses.

GOLF – The annual Bridgeport Lions Club Eyeglass Tournament is Saturday at the Bridgeport Country Club.

RABIES VACCINATIONS – Decatur Animal Control is offering reduced-price vaccinations for cats and dogs over 12 weeks old 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday in the First United Methodist Church parking lot between Pecan and Miller Streets. Rabies vaccinations are $6, and other vaccinations will also be available at reduced cost.

BAKE SALE – The Alvord JV cheerleaders will have a bake sale at 8 a.m. Saturday at Walmart.

YOUTH SIGN-UPS – Decatur Youth Football and Cheer sign-ups for the fall season are 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday at IGA. Children in grades 1st through 6th are eligible to play.

CEMETERY MEETING – The Lone Star Cemetery Association annual meeting is at 10 a.m. Saturday.

BRIDGEPORT IDOL – The 6th Annual Bridgeport Idol Contest is noon Saturday, May 8. Preregistration is required, and only 10 contestants will compete. Top prize is $500, new cell phone and Bridgeport Idol self poster. Second and third place cash prizes will also be awarded. To enter, call Susan Miller at (940) 366-0186.

YARD/BAKE SALE – Twin Oaks Assembly of God in Bridgeport will hold a yard and bake sale at 7 a.m. Saturday at the youth building.

FUNERALS – Service is pending for Don Lenschow, 68, of Boyd at Christian-Hawkins Funeral Home in Boyd.
