A DAUGHTER AFTER HER OWN HEART - Rebecca Lowrance, 32, of Chico gave birth to a daughter, Addison Nichole, around noon Thursday at Medical City, Dallas. Lowrance received a heart transplant in January 2008. Lowrance and her husband, Clint, chose the middle name “Nichole” in honor of the heart donor. DECATUR WRECK - One person was injured and traffic was halted in the southbound lanes of U.S. 81/287 after a two-vehicle accident near FM 51 in Decatur yesterday afternoon. The wreck occurred when Reva Grubbs, 69, of Decatur exited the on-ramp and made a left turn across U.S. 81/287. She drove in front of an SUV driven by Sandra Currie, 58, of Amarillo. A female passenger riding with Currie was transported to Wise Regional Health System with injuries.
WOODWARD HONORED – Dr. Tom Woodward of Decatur has been named an honorary vice president of the Fort Worth Stock Show. He was presented the honor by retiring Stock Show President W. R. Watt Jr. at the annual board of directors meeting Tuesday in Fort Worth. Woodward, manager of the Broseco Ranches in East Texas, has been a director of the Stock Show for 25 years. He is superintendent of the Junior Heifer Show and one of the founders of the Beef Heifer Superintendent’s Challenge that awards scholarships each year to exhibitors in the heifer show.
COMMUNITY INPUT - The search consultant for the new Decatur school superintendent has set a day-long series of meetings Tuesday for community input. Many of the gatherings are for specific groups. Sessions open to the community include 11:15-11:45 a.m. and 5-5:30 p.m. A questionnaire is also available online at www.decaturisd.us from April 23-29 for those unable to attend. Meetings will be held at the DISD Administration Bldg.
PIONEER DAYS – The Rhome Pioneer Days is today and tomorrow, with a street dance from 7 p.m. to midnight tonight. HEALTH FAIR – The Wise County Health Fair is 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the Decatur Civic Center. The event includes free health screenings, activities for children, door prizes and giveaways from health-related businesses and organizations.
