Sports Briefs for August 5

SOFTBALL TOURNAMENT – A softball tournament benefiting St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 14, at Kenny Renshaw Park in Decatur. Cost is $15 a person, or $150 a team. Teams must have at least four females, and at least 10 people per team. Deadline to sign up is Thursday, Aug. 5. GOLF TOURNAMENT – Decatur St. Jude fourth annual golf tournament is Saturday, Aug. 28, at The Club at Runaway Bay. Registration begins at 7:45 a.m. and the shotgun start is at 9 a.m. Entry is $100 a person, or $400 a team. Prizes will be awarded for winning teams, closest to the pin, longest drive and hole-in-one. Hole sponsorships are $100. Proceeds benefit St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. SHOOT FOR THE CURE – Chili’s of Decatur will host Shoot for the Cure, a skeet shoot benefiting St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Thursday, Sept. 23, at Fossil Pointe Sporting Grounds in Slidell. Registration begins at 8 a.m., and the event begins at 9 a.m. Entry is $100 per person or $500 per team. Teams must have four to five members. Sponsorships are available from $100-250. HIGH SCHOOL RODEO COMES TO TOWN – The Decatur High School Rodeo Team will play host to a North Texas High School Rodeo at the Wise County Sheriff’s Posse Grounds Sept. 24, 25 and 26. Vendor spots are available for $50 for the entire weekend. Many options for individual and/or team sponsorships are also available (all proceeds benefit the Decatur Youth). SOFTBALL REGISTRATION – The Boyd Youth Association will have sign-ups for the girls’ fall season Aug. 5 from 6:30-8 p.m. and Aug. 7 from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. at the high school gym. The cost is $35. Call Chuck Whatley (940) 399-8830 or Kristi Esquivel (817) 832-4257 for information.

SOCCER REGISTRATION – Bridgeport Soccer will hold registration Aug. 7 from 1-6 p.m. at the Bridgeport Elementary. It will also be held Aug. 8 and 15 from 1-3 p.m. at the Bridgeport library and Aug. 14 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the site. Registration is $50. FOOTBALL SIGNUPS – Chico Pee Wee and Midget football signups are 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturdays, Aug. 7 and 14 at Chico Mart. The leagues are for third and fourth graders and fifth and sixth graders. Fees are $75.

TEAM SEEKS PLAYERS – The 13-U North Texas Colts select baseball team will hold tryouts Aug. 14-15 from 5-8 p.m. at RYA Fields-Richfield Park. For information, call Mark at (817) 692-7216.

FALL SIGN-UPS EXTENDED – Wise County Youth Softball sign-ups will be extended until Friday, Aug. 6, for Fall Ball. Girls ages 7-14 from all over Wise County are invited to play. Cost is $35.
