One game might not erase the painful memories of last year’s season for Paradise, but it can certainly set a good tone for this year.

The Panthers equaled last year’s win total with a 40-0 thumping of Venus at Panther Stadium Friday.

Paradise took a quick 7-0 lead when quarterback Toi Glover crossed the goal line with 10:30 left in the first quarter and Jarett Roper added the extra point. Glover added a 25-yard touchdown run later in the quarter, and Roper’s kick gave the Panthers a 14-0 lead.

With 8:44 left in the second quarter, Glover used his arm to score the next touchdown when he found Logan Bailey on a 19-yard pass play to put Paradise up 21-0 following another Logan kick.

While the Paradise defense kept the shutout intact, Roper added a pair of rushing touchdowns in the third quarter – the first on a 38-yard run and the other on a 6-yard run. Glover added a 14-yard rushing touchdown in the fourth quarter to round out the scoring.

Glover had a solid game leading the team in rushing with 149 yards and passing with 146 yards. Panther receiver Dale Simpson caught one pass for 80 yards.

The Panther defense held Venus to only 103 total yards of offense. Offensively, Paradise amassed 407 yards.

Paradise will host Henrietta Friday.
