Decatur takes two

The Decatur Lady Eagles earned a pair of wins and lost one match in pool play Thursday at the Denton Ryan Kickoff Classic.

The Lady Eagles beat Class 4A Lake Dallas in four games. Decatur fell to TAPPS powerhouse Argyle Liberty Christian in three games. The Lady Eagles ended the day with a five-game win over Class 4A Denison.

Decatur was to play Saturday at 9:30 a.m.

The tournament follows the Lady Eagles getting a split Tuesday in their opening non-district matches against Azle and Wichita Falls Rider.

The Lady Eagles fell to Rider in four games, 25-18, 25-22, 20-25, 26-24.

“We came out flat in the first two games,” Decatur coach Claire Rose said. “Once we decided to start playing in game three it was a bit too late. We hung on, and once we got our rhythm going we were competing point-for-point with Rider.

“We had new leaders emerge on the court, and we ran a tough and fast offense. We definitely have work to do, but overall I saw a lot of good things and tons to build on heading into this 2010 season.”

Sara Oxford led Decatur with 10 kills, eight blocks and eight digs. Joey Redwine added eight kills, six blocks, three aces and 20 assists.

Kortni Robinson had seven kills and two blocks. Kortney Tompkins put down six kills to go along with eight digs.

Annelise Carpenter got her hands up for eight blocks and recorded three kills.
