The Boyd Lady Yellowjackets could not hold off a fierce Keene rally in their season-opening match Tuesday afternoon.
After winning the first game, Boyd (0-1) dropped the next three. Keene took the match 23-25, 25-23, 29-27, 25-23.
“We played pretty good,” said Boyd coach Misty Shepard. “We had great hustle and communication. Keene was very scrappy, and they kept us on our toes all night.”
Boyd fell behind 22-11 in the first game before Paige Gittings led a comeback at the service line. She led the Lady Yellowjackets on a 14-1 run to end the game and put them up a game.
“Paige stepped up and had some fantastic serves to get our momentum going,” Shepard said.
Gittings put down eight aces in the match with five kills and five blocks.
Boyd played tight games with Keene the rest of the match. Every game was decided by two points.
“It was just a few things that made the difference in each match,” Shepard said. “Some missed serves at key moments, a few bad passes and two net errors. These are all things we can work on and improve.”
Danielle Foster put down five kills to go along with one ace and nine assists. Shae Williams, Chelsea Landes and Jenny Hardcopf finished with three kills each. Hardcopf and Sarah Sanders added two blocks.
Setter Allie Voiselle had 11 assists and three aces. Brooke Barnett led the team with five digs. Landes added three digs and four aces.
