A Decatur woman was killed in a single-vehicle accident early Thursday morning on U.S. 380 west of Bridgeport near Farm Road 1658 West.

Margaret Irland, 28, of Decatur was pronounced dead at the scene by Precinct 2 Justice of the Peace Terri Johnson at 1:56 a.m. The cause of death was blunt force trauma.

A male passenger, Ryan Pinson, 38, of Decatur was transported by ambulance to Wise Regional Health System in Decatur. He was released Thursday.

The accident happened shortly after 1 a.m. The Ford Sport Trac driven by Irland was traveling eastbound on U.S. 380, pulling a boat, when it left the roadway.

It rolled several times before coming to rest in the eastbound ditch a quarter of a mile east of FM 1658 near the Devon Energy Gas Plant.

“We had one witness who was westbound and observed the vehicle going eastbound at a high rate of speed,” Stanford said. “The vehicle veered off to the eastbound shoulder at which time it rolled several times.”

Funeral for Irland is 10 a.m. Monday at Victory Family Church with burial at Sunset Cemetery.
