Two Tarrant County men were severely injured in a plane crash in south Wise County Sunday morning.

Dennis Gartman, 39, of North Richland Hills, and Jerry Baker, 63, of Fort Worth were in critical condition Tuesday morning.

The two-passenger plane crashed at about 8:45 p.m. near homes on Private Road 4810 near Keeter.

Dusty Lamance was working in his front yard when the crash occurred.

“It sounded like someone ran into my house with a car,” he said.

While he didn’t see the crash, he noticed his horses looking in the direction of the woods in front of his property, and he ran in that direction. He quickly checked on the two occupants and ran back to his house to get his wife, Whitney, a paramedic with Wise County.

“I was making breakfast, and he ran into the house and told me to call 911,” Whitney said.

Whitney and Dusty extricated Gartman and Baker before the medics were on the scene. Two helicopters were called to the scene, and the men were flown to John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth.

Witnesses said the plane was flying low and was in a flat spin before it crashed in the patch of woods.
