While the Decatur School Board has begun its search for the next superintendent, the outgoing superintendent has found a new job, and it’s not too far away.
Gary Gindt was named assistant superintendent for administrative services at the Northwest school district Monday. He will replace Mona Benotti, who is retiring at the end of the school year. Gindt announced his resignation from Decatur in March to be effective June 30.
In his new position, Gindt will oversee Northwest’s human resources division, safety and security department, technology infrastructure and the contracted food services program and print shop.
Gindt said the district’s reputation for excellence drew him to the school.
“I was interested from the standpoint that the district’s been very successful in everything they’ve done, whether it’s academics or planning for growth. Everything is first-class,” he said.
Northwest Superintendent Karen Rue said Gindt’s experience as superintendent will be valuable.
“We are excited to welcome Gary and know that his expertise as an educational leader will allow him to step into his role and continue those efforts here in Northwest,” Rue said. “He shares our belief in strong parental and community involvement and will be able to help guide us as we continue our course to likely become the fastest growing school district in Texas. His background in human resources and personnel management made him the ideal choice for our assistant superintendent of administrative services.”
The Decatur School Board also met Monday night to review applications for their new superintendent. The board named deputy superintendent and financial director Gary Micinski interim superintendent.
Gindt said Micinski will serve the district well as it continues its superintendent search.
“Gary Micinski is a wonderful person – he’s bright, a hard worker, and he really cares about the community,” Gindt said.
The Decatur School Board is expected to conduct initial interviews June 6-8 with follow-up interviews the next week. A lone finalist is expected to be named June 24.
