College tax, budget on Monday’s agenda

Taxpayers could see a slight decrease in the Wise County Weatherford College branch-campus maintenance tax next year.

County commissioners proposed a rate of 4.7791 cents per $100 valuation for fiscal year 2011, which is the effective rate. The effective rate will raise as much money with this year’s values as the 5-cent tax did for fiscal year 2010.

County Judge Bill McElhaney mentioned the possibility of adopting an even lower rate, but at last week’s meeting Weatherford College President Kevin Eaton asked that it not be set less than 4.62 cents.

Commissioners will approve a branch-campus maintenance tax and the WCWC budget for the upcoming year at an 8:30 a.m. meeting Monday, Aug. 23, in the third-floor conference room of the Wise County Courthouse in Decatur.
