Funeral for Katherine Sloan Speegle, 95, of Denton was June 26 at First Presbyterian Church in Denton.

Speegle died Tuesday, June 22, 2010, in Denton.

Born Dec. 11, 1914, in Chico to George Clarence and Gertrude (Tenny) Sloan, she taught English literature at Texas Wesleyan University in Fort Worth from 1965 to 1980. She earned a doctorate from North Texas State University in 1974 and specialized in Victorian English literature. She also taught English at the university.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert E. Speegle; and daughter, Roberta Lois Speegle.

She is survived by children, Philip T. Speegle and wife, Mary, Kathleen Speegle Schmitt and husband, Edward, and Roger Blake Speegle; grandchildren, Greg Speegle, Karen Quintanilla, Darrin Speegle, Karl Schmitt and Ursula Schmitt; and great-grandchildren, Mark, Erica, Alberto, Philip and Lisa.
