Brass bends space in metallic reflection. Sky, stands, track and marching band members warp strangely around the mercury-colored tuba as bellowing notes exaggerate gridiron drama.

Last Saturday, the Northwest Texans played Keller Central beneath a deep blue afternoon sky.

As the marching band performed at halftime, our roaming photographer captured the scene through reflection.

The deep tones issue emotions and create altered moods. While in the musical mirror, a slight change in the angle creates a new perspective, a shifted reality.

Earlier that morning, the band performed at the regional UIL marching band competition in Denton. Northwest, along with the Decatur and Bridgeport bands, all advanced to the area competition, which will take place Saturday in Lubbock.

Sometimes a simple shift in perspective or a different series of notes creates a brighter reality.
