Wise County 4-H members have had a pretty good week at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo.
Leah Guinn of Bridgeport placed first in a class of 40 with her light weight limousine steer. Her steer sold for $7,500 Saturday at the Sale of Champions. Taylor Clayton of Decatur had a second place middle weight AOB in a class of 58. Houston Texans owner Robert McNair purchased Taylor’s steer for $15,000 and plans to display the hide in his new home. Heather Wilson from Boyd placed seventh with her light weight AOB in a class of 60 head. Heather’s steer sold for $2,300 and was raised by James McGilvray of Boyd. Results of the heifer show were not available at press time but will be reported in next weeks column.
As 4-H’ers say good-bye to this year’s projects, now is the time to order validation tags for 2010 State Fair sheep, goats and 2011 major show steers. If you plan to have one of the above, contact the Extension office by April 1 to place your order. Tags will cost $10 each. Checks can be made to: 4-H Livestock Fund.
Entries for District 4-H Roundup are due at the Wise County Extension office March 31. Contact the office at (940) 627-3341 or e-mail email@example.com for a list of categories.
