The Texas 4-H Livestock Mentor Program’s Rabbit Volunteer Training will be July 16-17 at the Parker County Extension office in Weatherford. The program will begin at 3 p.m. on Friday, July 16.
The program will teach leaders to provide support to new project families (families in 1-3 years project). The training will provide a valuable set of resources from which to build and support families in Wise County who are new to the rabbit project.
Although there may be many teens capable of serving as Livestock Mentors, the training is intended only for adult project leaders. More importantly, all registrants must be approved by the Wise County Extension agent prior to the training.
The training will focus on two central themes to better support the program in our county: youth development and species-specific subject matter. Topics will include:
- Livestock Mentor Program
- Educating Youth
- Teamwork
- Selection and Classification
- Feeding and Nutrition
- Show Preparations and Showmanship
